Network Know-How

In 2002, Lexent Metro Connect developed a New York Fiber Network that, to-date, spans over 150 route-miles, includes Hudson and East River “Bore” crossings, and supports over 100 commercial buildings. Gaining a franchise for local, high capacity telecommunications services in 2002, Lexent Metro Connect is positioned as one of the foremost, ‘design-and-build’ telecommunications companies in the New York metropolitan area.

Today, Lexent Metro Connect leases its wholly owned fiber backbone to carrier and enterprise customers while continuing to build out new, purpose-built, dark fiber networks for customers looking for innovative solutions to network challenges.

The Value of Dark Fiber

Dark fiber offers a fast, secure, cost-effective alternative to traditional network models. Lexent Metro Connect's customers are offered the flexibility of owning their own custom network and have access to virtually unlimited bandwidth. Lexent leases strands of dark fiber as opposed to bandwidth in lit fiber; our customers have control over their own optics and thus their own network carrying capacity.

Lexent Metro Connect offers SMF ITU-T G.652 compliant dark fiber capable of light transmission at any speed. Our customers control access to their own bandwidth by adding layer two optics onto the dark fiber infrastructure. Since our customers have direct connectivity between their private optics, our customers are able to bypass the “Carrier Cloud”. Lexent Metro Connect's dark fiber is virtually free from outside interference, interception or interruption, giving our customers the most secure network possible. Our customers benefit from increased speed, carrying capability, and diversity.
